Václav Chad Gallery presents Jan Frydrych: Microcosms in Glass

The Václav Chad Gallery in Zlín invites you to a remarkable exhibition Jan Frydrych – Microcosms, on view from October 10 to November 9, 2025, on the first floor of the Zlín Chateau.

Jan Frydrych, one of the most prominent Czech glass artists working in the cold-cutting technique, was born in 1953 in Šumperk, northern Moravia. Trained as a glass cutter, he showed an exceptional sensitivity to form and detail from an early age. During his studies at the Faculty of Education in Ústí nad Labem, he began developing his own artistic practice, merging technical precision with a distinctive artistic expression. His medium became cut lead glass, which under his hands acquired a sculptural quality. Since the 1970s, he has collaborated with leading glass artists such as Václav Cigler and Marian Karel, and gradually established his own studio. Through his mastery, Frydrych has become a highly respected figure in Czech glass art and is today considered one of the most distinguished glass cutters contributing to the global reputation of Czech glass.

Frydrych’s works often resemble microcosms where exquisite craftsmanship meets the poetry of light. The forms shift with changing perspectives and surroundings, reflecting and transforming the world into dreamlike images. His art enjoys lasting international recognition – his works are included in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and The Corning Museum of Glass in the USA.

The exhibition is curated by Silvie Stanická.

The exhibition takes place as part of the (Glass)makers’ Week program, which commemorates the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The project is held under the auspices of the Czech Commission for UNESCO.

Opening hours: Wednesday–Friday 1–5 p.m., even Sundays 1–5 p.m.
